Presentation skills and managing meetings are always training topics in high demand. There’s been a shift, though, in people asking for more help with communicating over the phone. Partly it’s how businesses have grown through expansion or acquisitions, so they are dealing with customers and suppliers far away. But it’s also a problem internally. Thinner staffing, more contract labor and people working from home are affecting things, and even companies with none of the above say they are often too busy to get together.

As companies spread out, working remotely, and doing business globally, in-person meetings are facing extinction. “Just send it to me and we’ll talk about it” is the new norm and people need to adapt. Laptops and smart phones made it hard enough to hold attention. It’s impossible when you can’t see them or read reactions. The only certainty is they’re half listening while emailing or texting, because that’s what you do on theirs. Even worse, listen to your voicemail message…that monotone zombie you recorded five times is really how you sound.

Fortunately, there are techniques for increasing verbal impact, even on multitaskers. Package information differently so people look forward to your explanation. Vary your volume and animation to be more dramatic, not manic. Know what to say to spark engagement during awkward silences or muffle pushy opinion leaders. Have fun practicing what’s preached in what’s always a loud, lively session!

Long distance meetings have become an essential skill and traditional training doesn’t apply. This session teaches more practical skills for remote engagement that have been road tested in nearly two hundred workshops.

Cancellation Policy

There will be a 50% administration fee for any cancellations. If you need to cancel, we must receive it in writing (email or fax) 2 business days prior to the event during normal business hours. Refunds will not be given to no-shows. Credits will not be issued for use towards future PIHRA events.
