Intended Audience: Individuals who are interested in earning a Specialty Credential that demonstrates knowledge and mastery of California employment law and expertise.
How to earn your SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential:
1. Purchase the SHRM California Law HR Specialty Credential package, which includes:
- + Enrollment in the California HR: Applying CA Law to Employment Practices Seminar
- + Four comprehensive SHRM e-Learning courses on California-specific topics:
- - California Wage and Hour Laws
- - California Leave of Absence
- - California Privacy, Security and Safety
- - California Benefits
- + A 51-question online California knowledge assessment.
2. After passing the assessment, add your Specialty Credential to your email signature, resume and social media profiles, proving your specialty in California HR to your employer and your network.
3. You do not have to be SHRM certified to earn the micro-credential, however you will receive 25 PDCs toward your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification or recertification upon completion of the California knowledge assessment.

PIHRA Virtual Classroom Environment
This class will be delivered virtually just as if we were in a classroom. There will be face-to-face interaction using Zoom as our technology platform.
Technical requirements for the class include:
- Webcam. If your laptop/computer doesn’t have a camera, you can purchase one for around $30 from Logitech via Amazon.
- Quiet space without distractions
- Solid internet connection
Mike Letizia, SHRM-SCP, Letizia HR Solutions, Inc.
Mike Letizia is founder and President of Letizia HR Solutions, Inc. He is a senior human resource professional consultant with over 35 years’ experience in the full scope of HR functional areas. His background includes over 23 years of leadership at a director, vice president, and president leadership level. Mike is an accomplished senior generalist in human resources. His expertise covers strategic planning, workforce analysis, compensation & benefits administration, employee relations, recruiting and selection, payroll and salary administration, human resource development, and occupational safety, and security. Mike is a subject matter expert in California employment law and is a certified trainer in mandated FEHA harassment prevention training under California AB 1825. He is the author and developer of, “California Employment Law Essentials for Business”. A 6-hour workshop, and has facilitated the workshop for CalSHRM and other businesses throughout the state.
He is a credentialed member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) since 2002, gained his PHR-CA, California Certified Professional in Human Resources credential in December 2007, and his SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) credential in July 2015. A strong believer in stewardship and community involvement, Mike served as the Pacific West Region Representative on SHRM’s Membership Advisory Council for 2015 & 2016 and currently serves on a SHRM Special Expertise Panel. In addition, he serves as Past State Director for CalSHRM and also served on the San Joaquin SHRM Board of Directors (2001-2017) as Chapter President and other various roles.
Mike is a contracted instructor for SHRM delivering both virtual and face-to-face human resource education courses throughout the USA and California. He is a frequent speaker at business and trade associations delivering presentations, workshops and courses on a variety of human resource topics, and has worked with the University of the Pacific’s Career Resource Center and Eberhart Business School assisting students with career preparation, since 2004.
